Alan Vincent

Competitor in Stockcar Racing
Alan was a very popular fellow. Alan started racing in 1966 with a 1952 Ford flathead V8 at Freetown Speedway a dirt track. This was the start of four decades of racing. In 1968 he switched to a 1950 Meteor, and he usually ended in the money. His next car was a 1957 Dodge. Alan stayed with the Chrysler products.
In the early ‘70's when PEI’s stock car racing appeared to be doomed, Alan was determined not to let it die. He persuaded the Borden Kinsmen Club to rent the Freetown Speedway in 1973. Alan worked day and night to get the track in shape, he joined the Kinsmen and proved to be one of the clubs best members.
Alan would race at River Glade Speedway on Saturday night and head back to the Island to race Sunday. Alan was used to waving checker flags, sometimes 4 a night. Alan received the Most Sportsman Driver four times, he also won Fan Favorite Driver and Modified Championships.
In 1992 he started racing on the MASCAR Tour with a Dodge Daytona with the ever visible # 28 on the doors. The next year he purchased a Chysler LeBaron in Ontario that had been racing the CASCAR circuit, he raced it for 3 years. His next car he bought from Mike MacKenzie, put a 96 Dodge Avenger body on it and raced it until 1999.
In the early ‘70's he tried his hand at Drag racing and gathered a few trophies for his collection.

Allyn & John Armstrong

Allyn and John are # 1 Machinist, Innovators, Engine Builders for Drag and Stock Cars, Chassis Builders. Hold NHRA Drag Racing records.
Allyn Armstrong has been building competition race cars since the mid-sixties. His first was a 1956 Chev with a 327 four speed. His most well known cars were his Opels. The first in ‘83 that ran as a C/EA and B/EA. In ‘86 he built his second Opel which he raced very successfully until 2007.
John Armstrong has enjoyed drag racing since 1971. John was the official first to run his ‘69 Camaro SS/BA in the 8 seconds category - 8.944. He has set the record in many classes and won numerous classes.He was voted “Wrench of the Year 2003" by the Sportsmen in the North Eastern Division. His current car is a SS/BA Corvette that he still races.
They operate their family business building high performance engines. Their success in drag racing is a testimony to hard work and commitment.
A common comment at tracks is “How do they do THAT?”

Robert (Bob) Alcorn

Competitor/Snowmobile Racing
“Alcorn Is Big Winner”
1978 Bob was inducted into the Arctic Circle Club.
1979 He won the Buckingham Memorial Trophy for Most Sportsmanlike Competitor.
1980,’81 Bob’s snowmobile finished first in most of the races he competed in.
1982 There were 138 snowmobile entries and Bob Alcorn was the Grand Winner.
1983 His Arctic cat machines made him Top Dog in the sprint oval classes defending his ‘82 title.
1984 He was the Maritime Snowmobile Racing Federation oval racing champion.
1985 Bob continued his winning ways.
1991 At John’s Sports & Automotive he received the Arctic Cat Circle Of Excellence Award from Eastern Marketing Ltd.,Canada’s Arctic Cat Distributors.

Debbie Hallahan

Competitor/Stockcar Racing
Her most exciting moment - “Racing ...just racing!” Debbie began racing stock cars in 1977 at the early age of 15 years. Her first car was a pink and baby blue rotary powered Mazda #33 Mini Stock also known as Pony Class, depending where she was racing.
1981 her car # was 19 indicating her age. She was the only female racer at the Onslow Speedway. 1982 she attended Southards Racing School in Florida, where she learned under NASCAR driver Dick Trickle.
Over her 8 years of racing she competed at such tracks as Onslow Speedway, River Glade Speedway- where she won her first race, Atlantic Speedway and Riverside Speedway.

Glen Hoar

“A member of Canada’s elite in Motocross”
Glen started racing Motocross in the mid seventies at age 11. Was winning Mini Stock stockcar races at age 15. 1978 Shannonville, Ontario he won the Canadian Endurance Championship.
1983 Mini Stock Champion, River Glade Speedway. 1987 Canadian ATV Champion. 1987 An Ontario Region High Point Winner. 1992 was inducted to the Moncton Sports Wall Of Fame in the Players category 1993 raced formula Ford at Three Rivers, Quebec. 2005 Canadian Motocross +40 Champion.
Over a 15 year period he captured over 50 Atlantic Region Championships in both Motocross and Ice Racing.

Kevin Burns

Competitor, Builder/Drag Racing/Truck Pulling
Kevin’s interest in cars and drag racing began in his teens. November of 1965 he purchased a 1965 Pontiac GTO. 1966,’67 he was the Eastern Canadian C Stock Champion.
Early 1970's he Drag raced a 1955 Chevy. In mid 1970's he showed the ‘65 at local car shows. 1976 he competed in his first ISCA show.
His 1965 GTO earned top points in it’s class for 1976-77 and 1977-78 in the Eastern Canadian Championship Series associated with ISCA.
Kevin was a guest Judge for ISCA at a major competition in Las Vagas, Nevada.
He raced and worked at the Pennfield track when it was known as Atlantic Dragway. In the 1980's he was Track Operator of the then Pennfield International Dragway.
Late 1980's early ‘90's he got into Truck pulling. He ran a 1950 Mack truck (MACK ATTACK), a crowd pleaser. 1990's drove pace car at New Brunswick International Speedway. 2002 competed in Drag racing with a 1968 Pontiac Acadian known as Super Chief.

Ledwidge Family (Ernie, Cathy, Mike)

Truly dedicated people to Motor Sports.
Ernie started as a scorer at the Riverside Speedway 250 in1977.
1977-1979 he worked as a scorer at Riverside Speedway He used a tape recorder to score the cars. 1980-‘81 he scored at Onslow Speedway. 1982-‘83 scored and became race director. Cathy started scoring.
1984-‘87 They started Maritime Raceway Services with Norman Thompson. Worked for Ernie McLean at Riverside Speedway, Ernie was race director, Cathy tape scoring and Mike in the tower manual lap scoring. They also started a newsletter to racers and fans throughout the Maritimes.
1988-‘93 worked at Scotia Speedworld. Mike also started Handicapping along with computer scoring.
1994-‘95 helped Jerry O’Leary with construction of and opening of New Brunswick International Speedway. Here Cathy moved to Assistant Flag person.
1996-2000 They returned to Scotia Speedworld.
2001-2008 The Maritime Pro Stock Tour began, they became very involved. Still worked at Scotia Speedworld. Cathy until 2006 when she was diagnosed with cancer

Rollie MacDonald

“A Maritime Racing Legend”
As a boy Rollie raced old cars around the fields of his families farm. His first try at organized racing was drag racing. Started stockcar racing in 1966 and 43 years later he is still racing. 1983 won the MASCAR Championship. 1986 won the QUASCAR title in Quebec. 1994 Rollie raced the NASCAR Busch North Series. 1998 he became a part-time driver and a full-time ASA car owner for the late Scott Fraser. January 2005 Rollie was inducted into the Canadian Motorsports Hall Of Fame.2005 won the CARQUEST Pro Stock Tour Championship.

Fred Northrup became part of the Motor Sports world back in the late 1960's when he became the welder in the pits at River Glade Speedway on race night.
Fred founded Toys For Big Boys in 1968 with a passion for mechanics and laid the foundation for one of the most successful businesses in the Moncton area.
The story of Toys For Big Boys is one of father and son. His son, Larry is now the President. Larry worked his way up from the ground level, starting as a boy. They have been very supportive to many groups and organizations by sponsoring Bikers and other motor sports. Larry, himself, raced professionally in CMA and Vet Master motocross. He is also a partner of River Glade Motorsports Park.

Doug and Roberta Parkman

Doug always had a great interest in automobiles. Bought his first one at age seventeen. 1967 he drove a 1930 Chev Coupe to
Expo ‘67. His collector car hobby expended to tours, shows and outings in the Maritimes, Newfoundland, Ontario and many USA States. He raced Go-Karts, Stockcars and even tried Drag racing. He has been an active member of the PEI Antique Car Club for over 45 years. Doug and his wife Roberta have been active members of the Maritime Chapter of the Studebaker Drivers Club for the past 13 years. Roberta is a lady of many talents. She plays piano, accordion and sings at many functions. Doug and Roberta tour together in their antique cars.
