On June 13th, the Maritime Motorsports held their 4th Annual Pettyfest Auto Show. As you entered the Petticodiac arena you could hear the rumble of excitement. I met up with Winona MacLean to see how things were progressing.

“Lots of cars, lots of people, and good music by the “Border Town Band”. We had 76 cars registered but more showed up. It’s the best turnout yet. Other groups, such as “Mothers Against Drunk Driving” are here as well, and that’s a good thing.”

With excitement in her voice, Winona continued “The building is near completion. They’ll turn it over to us the end of June. The support is still strong.”

“A new project is selling bricks which started today. We have sold four or five here today. The bricks are $200.00 each and you can put your name or “in memory of” on them. They will be displayed in the new Hall of Fame.”

“The biggest project is gathering things that happened before our time. Newspaper clipping and any other memorabillia that we can find. It’ll take a while. Everything has to be catalogued and organized. The Motorsports Hall of Fame will take anything that runs with a motor except planes and trains.”

All things have not been put on hold waiting for the building either. “For the past three years we have been doing inductions into the Hall. 31 have been inducted so far. This year we have had twenty some nominated and we keep the nominations from previos years. We pick from all of them. we try to pick the older ones first, but of course there qwill some younger ones too. The induction is all set to go at the Crystal Palace in November.”

A gentleman was approaching and I asked his opinion on the Hall of Fame. It just happened to be John Lewis, one of the board of directors members. “I think things are going great. Lots of cars and lots of people here todayand an excellent new building.”
