MARITIME MOTORSPORTS HALL OF FAME GETS FUNDING FROM NB GOVERNMENT

ELGIN, NB (2006 April 27) - Things are happening fast and furious for the Maritime Motorsports Hall of Fame - and about to start happening faster...They recently received a cheque for $5,000 from the Regional Development Corporation to pay for funding to hire a consultant to prepare start-up documents.

"This cheque not only comes at the perfect time but is also greatly appreciated," said Ernie McLean, president of the Maritime Motorsports Hall of Fame. "This will allow us to get the right person to get the paperwork done that we need to move forward."

Shown at the cheque presentation in the picture are (left to right) John Lewis, councilman for Petitcodiac, Winona McLean, Director-Manager Maritime Motorsports Hall of Fame, and Wally Stiles, MLA for Petitcodiac.

McLean and his wife Winona founded the MMHOF late in 2004 and have been fundraising ever since with a goal to breaking ground for the new facility this summer. Individuals can purchase memberships and companies can provide sponsorship; contributions of over $100 are eligible for a tax receipt from the not-for-profit organization.

The first major fundraiser is being held this Friday (April 28) at the Moncton Lions Club with a Meet & Greet reception from 6 pm to 7 pm, a roast beef dinner at 7:15, followed by the entertainment. There will be approximately 112 prize draws with the top two prizes being an ATV, supplied by Toys For Big Boys, and a diamond ring, supplied by The Gold Outlet (Moncton). Numerous other lottery type draws will take place as well as a 50/50 draw. Ticket sales exceeded expectations and just a few remain available for $100 each.

The Maritime Motorsports Hall of Fame Inc. (MMHOF) is a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving and promoting all types of motorsports in the Maritime Provinces of Canada. Founded in 2005 by Canadian Motorsport Hall of Fame member and former River Glade Speedway owner Ernie McLean and his wife Winona, the MMHOF will eventually have a permanent home in Petitcodiac, New Brunswick. Until then, temporary facilities will house the collection in both Dartmouth, Nova Scotia and Moncton, New Brunswick.
